ENROL NOW FOR 2010
Geelong Lutheran College at Mt Duneed is now offering primary and secondary education for years prep to eight. As the students from year seven progress through the school the College will expand to provide education to year 12 by 2014.
Fifty-seven children began at the College on the first day of school last year and this year will see enrolment expand to 100. An ultimate enrolment of 1050 students will be expected once the site has been developed to full capacity.
Its location in a future growth corridor will enable the College to cater for the expected population growth and provide an alternative education choice for families. The availability of secondary education on the surf coast is already limited and so the provision of a Christian school will allow more choice for parents in this area as well as Highton, Waurn Ponds, Grovedale and Belmont.
The Lutheran Education system is the largest private education system outside of the Catholic Education system, providing for over 30,000 students across Australia. Lutheran education dates back to the 1830s with many of the first schools in Australia springing from the Lutheran population’s strong desire to educate their children within a Christian context.
Mr Gary Jewson was appointed as Principal of the College in January 2008, well ahead of the 2009 opening to ensure curriculum planning, staff selection and other crucial matters will be handled effectively.
Mr Jewson, who has a long history with St John’s Lutheran School in Newtown including nine years as Principal, will be involved in strategic planning in his role as Principal of the College with heads of campus to be appointed for both the Newtown campus and Mt Duneed campus to handle the day-to-day duties. This structure will ensure the continuation of the quality Christian education that has been established at St Johns.
