Lutheran School Opens at Mt Duneed
Over three hundred people gathered in Mt Duneed on 1st March 2009 for the formal opening celebration of Geelong Lutheran College.
The Opening worship was conducted by Pastor Greg Pietsch, the President of the Lutheran Church of Australia Victorian District and assisted by Pastor Rolf Lungwitz from the St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Grovedale.
Mr Andrew Eichler, the chair of the Geelong Lutheran College Counci,l had the honour of opening the College. Mr Eichler’s passion, drive and commitment have been instrumental in establishing this new school in Geelong’s very own Armstrong Creek urban growth corridor.
Other dignitaries at the opening included Mr Darren Cheeseman, Federal Member for Corangamite representing the Federal Education Minister, Mr Michael Crutchfield, MLA for South Barwon and Mr Richard Marles, Federal Member for Corio.
The opening was also attended by the National Director for Lutheran Education, Dr Adrienne Jericho and the Director for Lutheran Education South Eastern Region, Mrs Elizabeth Kloedon.
“Lutheran Education has a long history in Geelong dating back to 1854, but more recently with St John’s Lutheran school from 1962. Secondary Education has been a long held vision for the Lutheran people of Geelong and we are excited to be finally taking this important step,” said the Principal, Mr Gary Jewson.
Geelong Lutheran College provides education for children in Years prep through to year 7 and will grow a secondary year each year until it reaches year 12 in 2014.
The Lutheran community is committed to the College and is confident that this new school will be effective as it builds on the wonderful reputation long held by St John’s Lutheran School in Geelong.
Geelong Lutheran College at Mt Duneed and St John’s Lutheran School in Newtown, Geelong are Lutheran education in Geelong – ‘two schools, one community’.

Geelong Lutheran College has its First Day!
February 2nd, 2009
Geelong's newest school opened its doors today for the first time. with fifty-seven students. Over 150 parents and friends were here this morning to join in the opening worship led by Pastor Rolf Lungwitz..

Local company Magellan Projects are building the first stage that includes classrooms, administrative facilities and infrastructure works which will be in place for the 2009 school year.
